Saturday, December 1

Fourth Street and Pacific Avenue. At 2 a.m., officers on patrol at the Downtown Entertainment District heard several gunshots. They found a female adult who had been struck in the torso by gunfire and declared the victim deceased at the scene. Investigators found the shooting was the result of a verbal altercation in a parking lot between two groups of male and female adults. The victim was not believed to be a part of either group and has been identified as 24-year-old Anna Perez of Long Beach.

Seventh Street and Redondo Avenue. At 2:30 a.m., someone shot a Domino’s Pizza delivery person, causing his vehicle to crash into a parked vehicle. Police are not sure where the shooting took place, but though he was shot multiple times in his upper torso, he survived, though he may require surgery. Gang detectives responded to the scene and are investigating.

Tuesday, December 4 

6000 block of Atlantic Ave. A 9 a.m., police and found a man wounded by gunfire. Transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, the search is on for the suspect, about whom a description is not available as is the motive.

Carson Street and Greenbrier Avenue. At 12:15 p.m., the LAPD used a pit maneuver on a small SUV traveling west to stop it, then blocked it in with about five black and whites and arrested the male driver, who was wanted for two robberies with a knife than had occurred in San Pedro earlier in the day. The pursuit was picked up at noon on the eastbound 91 Freeway, the SUV travelling at high speeds to the southbound 605, where it changed lanes to shake the pursuit, exiting the freeway at Spring Street, travelling north on Studebaker Road, turning left onto Carson Street, travelling west in the eastbound lanes of Carson Street, pulling into the Heartwell Park Golf Course parking lot, driving along the sidewalk, then crossing Carson and heading west, where it was finally stopped about a mile away. permit. Long Beach police assisted by blocking intersections. After the pit stop, the SUV, which was not stolen, was parked on Greenbrier, where it might well get cited for not having the appropriate parking permit.

2200 block of Bellflower Blvd. According to a Nextdoor posting, at 6:30 p.m., “a man approached an older woman with his hand in his coat pocket like he had a weapon and demanded her goods. She complied.” She told the poster she thought “he was following her around the store and out to her car when he confronted her.” Possible holiday shopping connections.

Wednesday, December 5

Los Angeles. Police arrested L.A. resident Thomas McCreary, 42, in the shooting death of 24-year-old Anna Perez from Long Beach in a parking lot near Fourth Street and Pacific Avenue at 2 a.m. on Dec. 1. McCreary is suspected of firing a gun during an argument between two groups, neither of which involved Perez.

Saturday, December 8

Downtown Long Beach. In a case of animal abuse almost too gruesome to describe, an abandoned nine-month-old female Maltipoo-Terrier mix was found in a dumpster with the entire side of her head covered with bruises, a broken neck and a leg snapped in half. Named Chloe by its rescuers, the dog was taken to an animal hospital, where it will require surgery. Rewards totaling $15,000 have been offered to find the animal abuser.

Thursday, December 13

Ocean Boulevard and the Terminal Island Freeway.  At 7:45 p.m., motorcyclist, 58-year-old Edward Thorp of Huntington Beach rear-ended an Acura and was thrown into the roadway. Police said Throp ended up in one of the westbound lanes of traffic and was apparently struck by two different westbound motorists, neither of whom remained at the scene. One was a dark-colored vehicle possible SUV and a silver pickup truck. The Acura driver, a 33-year-old Long Beach woman, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Friday, December 14

200 block of E. 67th Street. Police responding to a report of shots fired, found a parked vehicle with a firearm inside and a 28-year-old man, whom they arrested, when they found evidence of a shooting in the area. Like a gun, maybe?

Saturday, December 15

South Street and Atlantic Avenue. Police were called by a hospital at 11:40 p.m. to report a woman had arrived with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her lower torso.  According to police, the woman didn’t known nothing about nothing, but when the cops went to the area where she had been, they did find a crime scene, but no criminal.

Sunday, December 16

2200 block of Bellflower Blvd. According to still another Nextdoor posting, “Today my wallet was stolen from Trader Joe’s on Bellflower. A young man acting like he didn’t speak English tried to ask me something. (distraction) He was wearing an obvious black toupee. Please don’t put your purse in your cart unsupervised. Lesson learned.” Topped by a toupee.
