1700 block of Pine Ave. At 7:15 p.m., there were reports of a fight with gunshots. The reporting party said he saw a male adult suspect shoot at an unknown person. Officers found a residence with a bullet hole in a window. No one was injured and with no known outstanding suspect, the motive for the shooting must be unknown. However, gang detectives also responded.

200 block of Obispo. A professed habit of a nearby resident of not parking his car next to a schoolyard fence, as no facing neighbors could hear a car break-in, was validated when six parked cars were found with smashed windows in the early morning. Investigating police left notes on the six windshields about the crime. Four victims contacted auto theft to report missing items, making a car window smash a multiple burglary case. The same resident mentioned a sneak thief who had moved far away recently had returned to the block at the same time, a real co-inky-dink.

900 block of Via Wanda. At 9:45 p.m. in the common area of the Carmelitos Housing Project, police found 23-year-old Jerrimiyah Davis of Long Beach with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body. Davis was rushed to a local hospital but died.

52nd St. and Orange Ave. Some hours after the Jerrimiyah Davis killing, police arrested 58-year-old Paul Edward Booth, whom authorities believe knew the victim, for the crime. Police said Booth allegedly confronted Davis, pulled a gun, fired and fled in a wheelchair.

Pacific Coast Campus of LBCC. The Long Beach Police Department announced a return of their popular warrant servicing event, in which those with misdemeanor and traffic warrants can come in to qualify for a new citation with a new court date. Warrants for violent acts will be treated differently. In the past year, over 185 individuals were assisted in this program, which the police stated is “a fresh start by taking care of their outstanding warrants.” Better than getting nabbed the hard way.

350 Neece St. A woman shot in her lower body in the northern part of Long Beach early Saturday morning showed up at a local hospital and the cops were called in to find out what happened and why. Officers went to the location and canvassed the area, but did not locate a crime scene or suspect, thus there’s no apparent motive for the shooting. The woman is expected to survive her injury.

Long Beach. In connection to the killing of 23-year-old Jerrimiyah Davis at Carmelitos Housing Project, at 3:15 p.m., police arrested 56-year-old Darral Frank, of San Pedro on suspicion of accessory after the fact. Police stated Frank was aware of the shooting and attempted to protect the alleged killer, Paul Booth, by concealing evidence. A rifle that authorities believe was used in the murder was allegedly concealed in a public place where Frank was arrested.

Huntington Park. At 3:30 p.m., police arrested Jose Rafael Guzman, a 27-year-old mechanic at his home for making online threats to an event featuring presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, scheduled to speak at Long Beach City College later that day. Police did not find any weapons at the house. Guzman was released on $50,000 bail prior to Sanders’ appearance, which carried on without a reported incident.

Tuesday, August 6

Anaheim St. and Santa Fe Ave. At 3:30 a.m. a carjacker threatened a driver with a handgun and took the victim’s car with the victim’s phone, which officers tracked with a “find my phone” app. That GPS signal led to Summit Avenue near Caspian Street, where they found the car and a man fleeing into a nearby home, barricading himself. With the help of SWAT team and negotiators, assisted by K-9 units and a drone, police evacuated neighbors and contacted the suspect, who apparently hoped they’d go away. At 8:30 a.m., SWAT searched several homes and arrested the suspect.

Anaheim St. and Ximeno Ave. A man was shot at and wounded in his upper body at noon. Officers found the man in a vehicle and arrested Toyicha Chisom, a 38-year-old Long Beach resident. Apparently both men knew each other and were involved in an ongoing dispute.
