5021 E. Anaheim St. While a production was underway at the Long Beach Community Playhouse, unknown malefactors smashed two car windows in the parking lot between 7:15 and 11 p.m. They took a purse with ID, a cell phone and credit cards from one of the cars. From the second car, the yield was a small make-up bag with lip gloss, meaning the suspect might well have undergone a sudden lip gloss alteration.

Anaheim St. and Santa Fe Ave. At 10:35 a.m., a pedestrian identified as 55-year-old Robert O’Brien of Long Beach was walking westbound on the south sidewalk of Anaheim Street when he stepped into traffic and was struck by a tractor trailer traveling eastbound on Anaheim Street in the number-three lane. O’Brien died as a result.

The driver was properly licensed and cooperated with investigators.

91 Freeway near Atlantic Ave. At 9:49 a.m., a 10-year-old boy who had been riding Pinto, a pony, fell off the animal, which promptly ran away to the Atlantic Avenue off-ramp of the 91 Freeway where it entered the freeway’s westbound lanes. At that juncture, it was clipped by a black SUV, which then drove off. Other motorists stopped and did the right thing, leading the miniature horse onto the shoulder of the freeway. Reports were that the pony suffered abrasions to its legs, but did not appear to have suffered any other injuries. At that point, after animal care officials examined the animal, CHP officers contacted its owners, who removed the pony on a trailer to take him to safety. The CHP would like to find the SUV driver, a potential horse hit-and-run case in the making.

405 Freeway near the Wardlow Rd. exit. At 1:05 p.m., a BMW X3 was heading north on the freeway when a loose tire crossed over the center divider, slammed into the windshield of the BMW, killing the driver, Judith Yourman, a 61-year-old Rancho Palos Verdes resident and injuring her passenger, 62-year-old Kevin Yourman of Rancho Palos Verdes who was hospitalized. The tire came from the rear left side of a Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Neemia Curtean, who was going about 50 mph. on the southbound 405 Freeway.

Redondo Ave. at 11th St. At 6:20 a.m., a homeless man, Mike Yanis, 59, was crossing Redondo Avenue when he was struck by a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox going south. Yanis ended up in the northbound lane, where an oncoming car avoided him before he was struck by a 2008 Honda Civic and died. Both drivers remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, who determined neither driver was distracted or impaired.

Atlantic Ave. and Artesia Blvd. At 9:12 p.m., a car smashed through the front doors of a 7-Eleven, with no driver, customer, employee or Slurpee seriously injured, though a smashed glass doorway will probably require treatment and rehab. Calling it an accident, police said the driver wasn’t impaired.

Second St. and Park Ave. At 8:30 p.m., a driver ran a red light, collided with another car and promptly crashed into the Watch and Clock Center storefront on Second Street, causing the shattering of glass and some damage to the Belmont Shore business.

Cedar Ave. and Pacific Coast Hwy. At 8:15 p.m., a shooter fired at a home. Investigating, police found bullet casings in front of the home, but by then, any likely suspects had fled, leaving behind no injuries, Gang detectives are investigating.

7501 Carson St. A moviegoer at the Regal Edwards theater contacted police at 9 p.m. about a “shots call” during a showing of the movie “Joker,” which has been linked to potential violence because of imagery and theme. In this instance, police determined a male adult wearing a backpack walked to the front of the theatre. The man “surveyed” the crowd, causing patrons to fear he had a weapon, so they “self-evacuated,” meaning they ran out of the theater. The backpacker was detained, determined to have no weapons, but did have an outstanding warrant, which led to his arrest and booking. The movie showing continued apace, no joke.

65th St. and White Ave. At 1:45 a.m., an adult female suffered multiple wounds to her upper torso and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Lakewood Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call. Determining it was most likely a Long Beach crime, North Division officers took over the investigation and located a crime scene and evidence of a shooting. The shooting was deemed possibly gang-related.

Tenth St. and Bennett Ave. As police approached a bus to detain a person suspected of carrying a weapon on-board at 10:35 a.m., they advised Wilson High School to go on lock down. By 10:40 a.m., the arrest was complete and Wilson was unlocked.
