Monday, October 7

CSULB. University police investigated an afternoon emailed threat to shoot up the university, arresting 18-year-old Prateek Devulpally, whom they allege sent the message, quickly. After the campus sheltered-in-place for about 30 minutes, police arrested a female student who was believed to be the sole suspect, however they changed the narrative when investigators learned Devulpally allegedly hacked into her email address to send the threat, something to which he allegedly admitted. Devulpally was booked for suspicion of making criminal threats, and for knowingly and without permission using or causing computer services and was held on $50,000 bail.

Tuesday, October 8

2500 block E. Anaheim St. Police raided an illegal gambling operation. With a search warrant, they found gaming equipment, about $1,200 in cash and two firearms. Detectives believe an August 27 stabbing is related to this gambling establishment, however, there is apparently no suspect they were willing to name. Got warrants? Stay away from gambling dens, a lesson learned by Long Beach residents, Israel Solorio, 25, Raymond Spruell, 29, Donquay Buffin, 27, Dontaye Harris, 28 and Darren Moore, 32 as well as Laudy Mom, 36, of Lakewood all of whom had outstanding warrants, held on bail ranging from $250 to $50,000. Savantha Phon, 32, of Long Beach was booked for resisting arrest and an outstanding warrant, held on $40,000 bail and Brandon Arnold, 32, of Gardena, who was booked for a no-bail parole violation.

Wednesday, October 9.

55th Pl. and Ocean Blvd. At 5:45 p.m., lifeguards responded to a report of a dead body at the waterline of the Alamitos Peninsula beach. He was later identified as 21-year-old Juan Barrios of Pico Rivera, who went missing in Orange County. No foul play was suspected.

Sunday, October 13.

10th St. and Rose Ave. As the result of suspected road rage at 7:45 p.m., a man was stabbed, self-drove to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds to his upper torso. Police located the offender’s vehicle at a nearby residence, arresting the suspected driver, 34-year-old Leno Amador of Long Beach for assault with a non-firearm deadly weapon and battery. A 17-year-old Long Beach male passenger was placed in custody at Central Juvenile Hall.

6000 block of Linden Ave. At 7:15 p.m., someone shot and killed a 57-year-old man inside his apartment. Police said a number of people left the area immediately after the shooting, “some on foot and others in vehicles.”

Monday, October 14

200 block of Pine Ave. At 1:25 a.m., police responded to still another stabbing, finding the victim with a non-life threatening laceration on his upper torso which sent him to the hospital. Police said he was in “a physical altercation with two male adult suspects when the victim was cut.” Two adult suspects were taken into custody and transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries received at fight time.

Tuesday, October 15

200 block of E. 10th St. At 3:45 a.m. at another gambling operation, two men got into some sort of fight. That’s when David Junior Gonzalez, 23 of Norwalk, allegedly pulled a gun and shot a 54-year-old resident of Lakewood, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition with wounds to his upper body, later dying. Gonzalez had minor injuries to his upper body, supposedly received when others at the establishment intervened after the shooting. Gonzalez was booked on $2 million bail.

Wednesday, October 16

2300 block of Pacific Ave. Another day, another gambling raid. At 3:30 a.m., police with a search warrant, seized three gambling machines, four firearms, ammunition, narcotics, about $5,000 in cash and two stolen vehicles. Out of about 40 gamblers on scene, 11 were arrested. Carrying warrants, Long Beach residents Oscar Vasquez, 27, Christopher Metz, 38 and Anthony Newman, 34, as well as Danielle Leigh, 51, of Lakewood, Channy Teng, 38, of Torrance, Monserret Lopez, 37, of South Gate and Sokhom Nget, 38, of Artesia, bail ranging from $125,000 to $1,500 to no bail at all. Yvette Smith, 35, of San Pedro was booked on a warrant and possession of a controlled substance, held without bail, Michael Johnson, a 28-year-old resident of Carson was booked on unlawful possession of ammunition and Christian Yap, 38, of Carson for iillegal possession of a firearm, for both, bail at $35,000 bail and Thomas Rodriguez, 46, of Lomita, booked on possession of a controlled substance for sale, held on $30,000 bail.

Santa Fe Ave. and Burnett St. At 8:50 p.m., came reports of a shooting, police found no victim, shell casings only. When a man arrived at a local hospital with tell-tale non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his lower torso, police found a second man in a nearby residence with gunshot wounds to his lower body, then to a hospital in stable condition. Gang detectives were called to assist in the investigation.
