Compassion for Animals
Mary Tyler Moore will be missed for both her comedic genius and her ceaseless compassion for animals.
Mary was one of the first stars to have a change of heart about fur, donating her $112,000 sable coat to PETA to use in protests. She famously helped PETA free a 65-year-old lobster from a restaurant back into the ocean, and hosted PETA’s video exposé of the horse abuse involved in making the drug, Premarin.
A longtime vegetarian, she once said, “I’m convinced, with heightened awareness, that there will come a time when we look back and say, ‘Can you believe that people used to eat animals?’ A human being has been given an intellect to make choices, and we know there are other food sources that do not require the killing of a creature that would protest being killed.”
