Halloween Tragedy Memorial

A 20-year-old Long Beach man was charged with killing a family of three in a DUI crash on Halloween by the LA County District Attorney’s Office. Carlo Navarro was charged with three counts each of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Navarro is accused of crashing his vehicle into a family that was walking home from trick-or-treating at Country Club Drive and Los Cerritos Park Place. Joseph Awaida, 30, died that night at a local hospital. His 32-year-old wife, Raihan Faisal Dakhil Awaida, died Nov. 3, and their 3-year-old son, Omar, died on Nov. 2. The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 45 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged.
