Hit & Run Traffic Fatality

LBPD Media Relations Detail
On Monday, Feb. 5, at approximately 6:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and 19th Street regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian injury traffic collision, which resulted on the death of the pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located a female pedestrian who had sustained major body trauma, laying in a driveway in the 1900 block of Santa Fe Avenue. Long Beach Fire Department responded and transported the female victim to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian, later identified as 52-year-old Rita Felix of Long Beach, had been waiting near the bus stop on Santa Fe Avenue when she stepped out into the roadway, possibly to check for an oncoming bus. At the moment the pedestrian stepped out into the roadway a pickup truck had made a right turn onto Santa Fe Avenue from westbound 19th Street and struck with the pedestrian.

The pickup truck was last seen eastbound on Summit Street and then southbound on Harbor Avenue. The pickup truck was described as an older model lifted Ford F150, possibly silver or gray in color.

Any witnesses to this incident are asked to contact Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation’s Detective Sirilo Garcia at (562) 570-7355. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the “P3 TIPS” app to your smart phone (available at the Apple App store and Google Play), or visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
