LA28 Confirms 7 Sporting Events to Be In Long Beach for the 2028 Olympic Games

The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games announced more than a dozen venue assignments for Olympic sports, utilizing sports venues and locations in the City of Los Angeles and neighboring cities of Long Beach and Carson.

As a Venue City, Long Beach is set to host the largest number of sporting events other than the host City of Los Angeles for the LA28 Games.

“The confirmation of these first seven sporting events to be held in Long Beach further solidifies our status as a premier sports destination and our commitment as a major Venue city for the LA28 Games,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Long Beach will be ready to welcome athletes, spectators and visitors from around the world and showcase our city’s vibrant sports culture and coastal features.”

Long Beach’s Arena will host Handball, Marine Stadium will host Canoe-Sprint and Rowing competitions, Sailing will be held in the water along the Belmont Shore, Marathon Swimming and Triathlon competitions will be held along the Waterfront along Alamitos Beach, and Water Polo will be held in a temporary aquatics center at the Convention Center lot. The relocation of Rowing and Canoe Sprint from Lake Perris in Riverside County to Marine Stadium, which involved exceptional arrangements supported by the World Rowing Congress and specific for the LA28 Games, will place the athletes of these sports at the heart of the Long Beach sport cluster, enhancing the experience for both athletes and spectators. Long Beach could potentially host Artistic Swimming and Para Swimming competitions, pending the City of Los Angeles’ approval, as proposed by LA28 on June 21, 2024.

This announcement includes venue assignments that are both unchanged from the original 2017 Bid Plan, along with new venue assignments. These assignments have been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board, and follow the completion of Games Agreements with the City of Long Beach.

All confirmed sports and venues announced to date are available for reference on LA28’s updated Games Plan webpage. Per current guidelines, LA28 will not use existing corporate or philanthropic names for stadiums and arenas for Games purposes.

In the months ahead, LA28 will announce additional venue assignments in the host City of Los Angeles and other Venue Cities such as Long Beach, including new sports that were added since LA28’s original 2017 Bid Plan, as well as the Paralympic venue plan.

In June the Long Beach City Council approved the Venue Use Guarantee that details potential venues to be used and served as a critical step in solidifying the venues in Long Beach for the LA28 Games. The Venue Use Guarantee reiterates Long Beach’s commitment as a Venue City for the LA28 Games by ensuring the availability of these designated venues for all event needs and outlines the terms and conditions for venue usage.
