LBPD TigerText Scandal Spurs Multiple Investigations

Stephen Downing

The LBPD’s illegal destruction of evidence by means of the self-destruct Instant Messaging (IM) application – TigerText – first exposed on Sept. 18 by the Beachcomber in cooperation with Al Jazeera and the ACLU has resulted in multiple official inquiries.

The Beachcomber has been notified by the Los Angles District Attorney’s office that “the matter has been referred to the District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division for review.”

Long Beach Councilmember and Public Safety Committee Chair, Suzie Price, informed the Beachcomber that, “We will be agendizing this for a future public safety meeting or at council,“ Price said, “I agree that it’s a significant revelation and one that is of significant concern for me as a (Orange County) prosecutor.”

In a Sept. 21 letter to City Attorney Charles Parkin and Chief of Police Robert Luna, ACLU Attorney Mohammad Tajsar made multiple demands for the city to fully comply with past Public Records Requests (PRA) related to TigerText and its suspension and to “conduct a thorough internal investigation into the use of TigerText and its impacts on closed and pending cases.” The ACLU gave the city 30 days to comply or face legal action.

Dirty not Drity lol Lock them up

Luna and his entire command staff needs to be let go in order to restore the Police Department. Any management that used this illegal app need to be held accountable! The city manager who gave us this crooked Police Department management needs to be fired as well! City Council do your job!

Huge payouts for terrible officer involved shootings is what I believe caused the boys in blue to start using these dirty tactics. Who knows what else they use now to avoid discovery issues. This department needs a complete overhaul. The Feds need to take over and a consent decree is appropriate due to the chaos on Broadway!!!
At minimum an outside review is needed and not with Pat West and cronies in charge of the investigation.
