No on 50
Currently there are 43 Democrat Congressmen from California and 9 Republican Congressmen. Does that sound fair? I don’t think so!
Among the nine Republicans we have two in particular, who, are extremely valuable to our country. Ken Calvert from the Riverside area who is on the Committee on Appropriations, Chairman Subcommittee on Defense and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Water. Darrell Issa from the San Diego area is on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Judiciary Committee and House Science.
Consider these facts and vote “No” on Prop 50.

Yes on 50
Voting Yes on Prop 50 isn’t an endorsement of any politician. It’s a declaration that California refuses to surrender its voice to a national political movement that has declared war on the rule of law itself.
The founders didn’t design a system that requires unilateral disarmament. They designed one meant to defend itself. Prop 50 is that defense.
So, let’s be clear: this isn’t about giving anyone tougher turf – it’s about keeping America a place where turf still matters, because votes still count.
Let’s vote Yes on Prop 50 – not because we love redistricting, but because we still love democracy.

LB History
Thanks to Steve Propes for his very informative and interesting article on the ‘Visible and Hidden History of Long Beach’ [Oct. 17 issue].
One thing he didn’t talk about in the article, though, was the pool hall on American Avenue/Long Beach Boulevard (I believe near Broadway).
The history of that establishment would be interesting.

Pastor Case
Chaplain Travis Case […Is on the Case, July 25 issue] has been an incredible source of support both before and after my dad passed away. His warm smile, willingness to help and attentive listening have strengthened my faith and given me the courage to face what lies ahead. I truly have no words to express my gratitude for everything he has done – not only for me but for my entire family.
As a Catholic, the respect and care he showed me were especially meaningful. Reading this article reminded me of the dedication and commitment he brings to his role – truly as valuable as any other position in the hospital. Roles like his are essential, not only in healthcare but in the world at large. My family and I will always cherish his support.
