THE LONE SAILOR – Marlene Temple, wife of the late Don Temple, poses with a new brick laid in his memory last week at the Ocean Boulevard memorial at Paloma Avenue. Having served in the Merchant Marines and U.S. Navy, Temple would often remark the statue resembled his early years in Long Beach when he told Kansas relatives that he “died and went to heaven” upon discovery of Long Beach. He passed away March 15, 2013 after creating the first self-storage facility in Southern California, which will be observing its 50th anniversary on July 7 at the LBPOA Park.
