The Lone Sailor

VETERANS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY gathered at the Lone Sailor Memorial in Bluff Park Oct. 12 to celebrate the Sailor’s 15th anniversary and to honor those who served in the military. The Long Beach Municipal Band played patriotic music and band member Pat Mullen performed Taps. Special guests spoke at the microphone during the short program on Ocean Boulevard and Paloma Avenue. In a speech by Retired Capt. Braden Phillips, he noted that of the 15 Lone Sailor’s in the United States, plus one in Guam, only the one in Long Beach faces the ocean.
