MemorialCare Showcases Future Children's Village

MMC

On Wednesday, June 27, MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach took the first big step on its journey to build the Children’s Village. When complete in 2021, the Children’s Village will be an 80,000 sq. ft., four-story building on the Miller Children’s & Women’s campus that provides a one-stop-shop approach to follow-up (outpatient) care.

Employees, physicians, patients and families were able to tour and offer input on a true-to-size cardboard mock-up of a portion of the building. Built under a giant white tent, the 8 ft. cardboard walls allowed attendees to envision an exam room, procedure room, imaging area, education center and family resource center.

For many children, medical care doesn’t end when they leave the hospital. As one of eight children’s hospitals in California, Miller Children’s & Women’s cares for thousands of children annually who need ongoing follow-up care for chronic health conditions.

Currently, Miller Children’s & Women’s provides pediatric specialty care in seven medical offices throughout Long Beach. The unique setting of the Children’s Village will bring all of its specialty care in one easy-to-access location.
