New Deputy Prosecutor
BRENDAN BOYES, center, a former Beachcomber paperboy from 2000-2004, was sworn in as a deputy prosecutor on Tuesday by Mayor Robert Garcia, left, with City Prosecutor Doug Haubert observing. A 2008 graduate of Wilson High School, Boyes joined the Marine Corps, planning to do ROTC to pay for college, but he got activated right away and deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. After he was released from active duty in January 2011, he enrolled in LBCC. He transferred to and graduated from CSULB in 2013, then went to Notre Dame Law School, from which he graduated in 2017. “He wanted to move back to Long Beach and serve as a prosecutor. I’m so glad we can make this happen for him,” Haubert said.
