WORKERS WITH MSL ELECTRIC, INC. put finishing touches on a new lamppost on Paloma Avenue and East 2nd Street during phase one of the Bluff Park historic lamppost project June 7. The quaint area received 10 new lampposts costing about $13,000 each in the first phase of the project and more phases will take place over several years to cover the whole historic district, according to the Bluff Park Neighborhood Association. Funds are raised through donations, sponsorships, fundraisers and grants. The lampposts used to be common in the area as evidenced by old photographs. The project aims to bring them back to the neighborhood. The posts match the original antique ones from the 1920s, which remain on First Street and serve as the model, according to the association. Modern cobra-head street lights are removed as part of the plan. To donate, volunteer or learn more, people can visit bluffpark.org or call (562) 449-0977.
