Paper Carrier Has Love for Engineering

Buddy Rodrigues

Noah “Buddy” Rodrigues is a 14-year-old newspaper carrier for the Beachcomber who has an interest in engineering. Buddy heard about this job through a friend from school at Marshall Academy of the Arts. His friend was delivering newspapers when Buddy asked him how he got the job, he was told that it could be found within the newspaper.

He decided to go through with being a paper carrier because he thought it would be fun and nice to get some cash.

His favorite part of the job is delivering to his block, “When people stand outside, you throw it to them and they catch it,” Buddy said. The only difficult thing about the job is folding the papers, because of how time-consuming it is.

In his free time, Buddy plays video games and basketball. He likes to play basketball with his friends at the park and has a preference for superhero video games.

Another thing that interests him is engineering, so much that he is currently taking a robotics class at his school. On top of engineering, he likes science and math. He plans to go to Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science because of his interest in the subjects. Once he is there, he looks forward to taking engineering and chemistry classes.

He is also excited to make new friends, “There’s going to be no one I know there, so, new friends.”

His current goals are to get straight As and pursue a career in engineering, “I don’t know what type of engineer but maybe a chemical engineer.”
