Pike Restaurant & Bar’s Seafood is as Great as Their Jukebox
Long Beach is cool because we have places like Pike Restaurant & Bar. A restaurant by day, live music venue at night. Classic.
On the corner of 4th and Hermosa on Retro Row, Pike Restaurant has a variety of fantastic fish tacos and a host of other well thought out meals that mix well with their diversified beer and cocktail menu. Fish and Chips ($16.50) are very popular here. Beer battered with hand-cut fries, house made tartar sauce accompanied with well above average coleslaw…Mmmmm.
Chef Romiro Cavazos sees to it personally. It is impressive to watch him and his team work the kitchen. Every plate is given the attention it deserves at Pike. The entire menu is great. Spacious seating and a classic bar grabs your eyes as you enter this well-lit establishment ordained with precariously placed band stickers and classic posters. Their outdoor patio is spacious and comfortable with the right amount of shading. They are dog friendly and the staff is professional, courteous and fun.
The bartenders really know how to make the drinks here. Pike Restaurant & Bar is a time-honored hot spot of entertainment that is a landmark of Long Beach. Some very credible musicians have done time on this conspicuously small stage over the years and you can feel the residual good vibes that continually echo throughout this unique and wonderful spot.
This is the kind of place that if The Rolling Stones were in town, this is where they would hang out. And not just because the food and the locals that frequent this joint are exceptional, no, Pike has this jukebox, a jukebox filled with music that will make you smile. A working jukebox that has a collection of songs from several genres that will enthrall any music enthusiast, or human being for that matter. If you can’t find a song that you love on this jukebox, you need to go home and rethink your life.
Great music and food are a combination that should never be overlooked or underappreciated. If you are going to go to the trouble to do something, do it right. Listen, eat, enjoy, repeat. There has been incredible research conducted with groups of people to demonstrate how the sound influence reflects on food consumption. These results revealed that music causes changes in our senses and mood, directly interfering with the taste and choice of food by the consumer.
So, I see it as what we listen to while we eat is as important as the food itself. Enjoy every meal to the fullest, is all I am saying. The people at Pike obviously know this and are ready to serve up some good times.
Drummer Chris Reece of The Lewd and Social Distortion punk rock n’ roll fame owns and operates The Pike. Which would explain why this place is so awesome and how they book such unique bands constantly over the years. Check out their calendar of upcoming musical acts. This is simply a fun place to spend time. I am sure I will see you there, it is what Long Beach is all about, day or night.
Go eat for yourself.
