RIP Jamie Ferrera
LOVED ONES OF JAMIE FERRERA, 46, surround a memorial for her Aug. 8 on Atlantic Avenue north of 35th Street, where she and her dog were killed after being struck by a vehicle or vehicles.
The Beachcomber reported on her death in its last issue but the victim’s name had not yet been released.
The LBPD said through a press release that a vehicle going southbound on Atlantic collided with Ferrera around 9 p.m. as she crossed the street Aug. 1.
Long Beach Fire responders pronounced Ferrera dead at the scene. The press release did not mention a dog even though a dead dog appears at the scene on a YouTube video by Freedom News TV.
The driver cooperated with the investigation and speed, distracted driving and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision, according to police.
However, others say there were at least two cars, maybe three, from each direction that ran over the body, making it unrecognizable.
Ferrera’s family set up a GoFundMe fundraiser under “Honoring Jamie Ferrera’s Cherished Memory.” The family says Ferrera “was taken from us in a hit-and-run incident while walking her beloved dog.”
Ferrera lived in Long Beach and had three daughters and a son. She was described as “a very friendly person who would help others” and as being a “free spirit” who loved her dog.
