Two File for 3rd, 5th District Council Districts

Two local community activists filed their papers today for the upcoming Long Beach Council elections in April 2018. Corliss Lee has filed for the 5th District Council seat. Gordana Kajer will be running in the 3rd District Council race. Their goal is to turn their grassroots campaigns into a referendum on upcoming planning and environmental issues facing their neighborhoods and the city, at large. Both Lee and Kajer consider themselves to be reform ticket candidates.

 

Both Kajer and Lee are involved in issues that are important to most Long Beach residents:

Corliss Lee is 24-year resident of east Long Beach, a retired aerospace manager and currently a community activist. She is on the board of Citizens About Responsible Planning (CARP), a group that is a watchdog over city planning that affects our environment and residents. She is a founder and leader of the neighborhood group The Eastside Voice, actively challenging the Land Use Element (LUE) proposal that greatly increases density both in East Long Beach and across the city.

 

Gordana Kajer is a 30-year resident of Long Beach, a small business owner and property manager as well as a long-time activist on environmental issues facing Long Beach. She is a founding member of the Long Beach Chapter of Surfrider Foundation, a past board member of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust and served as the 3rd District council representative on the City of Long Beach’s Sustainable City Commission under Councilmember Gary DeLong.

 

Both campaigns will take a grassroots approach, talking and meeting with neighborhood leaders, business owners and residents to learn more about what is important to them. Your input and participation are welcome.
