Two New Businesses Coming to East Long Beach

Raising Cane’s, a Louisiana-based fried chicken finger chain, will be bringing their special sauce and extremely long lines to Long Beach.

The chain currently has over 430 locations worldwide and this will be the fifth location near the Los Angeles area, the others being located in Downey, Pico Rivera, La Habra and Lakewood.

The restaurant will be located on the southeast corner of Atherton St. And Outer Circle and will be the newest addition to the “retail renaissance” of the Long Beach Traffic Circle.

The traffic circle is currently host to businesses such as, Carl’s Jr., Chase, Wells Fargo, Chick-fil-A, Starbucks and Rite-Aid.

And with the addition of Raising Cane’s to the Traffic Circle, it will be interesting to see how it affects the business of the other chicken restaurant on the circle, Chik-fil-A. For many, the title of “best fast food chicken restaurant” has always been a race between the two.

“It’s juicier,” said Carina Diaz, a college student eating at the Chik-fil-A location in Long Beach. “I always get the spicy chicken deluxe and the taste of the chicken on its own is a perfect 10 out of 10.”

The addition of Raising Cane’s will certainly give consumers around the area more options but it may be hard to sway some die-hard Chick-fil-A fanatics.

“I’ll mostly still be coming here but I do know I have a lot of friends that like [Raising] Cane’s more, so I’ll definitely be going whenever it opens,” said Diaz.

Raising Cane’s tasty but very limited menu is mainly focused around their signature chicken fingers. They have three chicken finger combos available for choosing, The 3 Finger, The Box and The Caniac.

The three combos come with chicken fingers, the quality being determined by which combo you select, Cane’s special sauce, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and a drink.

They also offer a “Tailgates” or catering option that is available in quantities of 25, 50, 75, or 100 chicken fingers for any special occasion.

And for those not a fan of tenders, they also offer a sandwich combo that comes with the same set of sides previously mentioned before.

And although their menu revolves around chicken fingers, their super-secret sauce and freshly squeezed lemonade always make for a delicious meal.

The closest Raising Cane’s to the people of Long Beach are in Downey and Lakewood both of which are known to have long lines.

But nonetheless, as Fourth District Council Member, Daryl Supernaw said in his newsletter: “Raising Cane’s will be part of the remarkable renaissance taking place east of the Traffic Circle.”

There is no word to when Raising Canes will open at the Traffic Circle but when it does you can almost certainly expect a line to wrap around the establishment.

Along with Raising Canes, New York based Shake Shack will also be making its Long Beach Debut. The American fast food currently has over 130 restaurants in the U.S alone and is rapidly growing.

The Long Beach location will be located at 2nd & PCH in the retail development happening in Alamitos Bay.

Shake Shack opened their first California location in West Hollywood a couple years back and since then have opened various more, including one in the Glendale area.

Shake Shack’s menu is composed of everything you will find at any other fast food burger joint with some additional options. They offer different styles of burgers, from their classic ShackBurger (a single or double cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and their secret ShackSauce), to a Shroom Burger (a crisp-fried Portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheese).

Other items available include chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, chees fries, iced teas and milkshakes and they even offer their own signature draft beer.

According to shakeshack.com, their signature draft beer, the Shackmeister Ale is “a brew surely worthy of our eats with its deep golden color, bright citrus, style, slight bitterness and bready malt flavor.”

But that is not all Shake Shack has to offer, they also have a selection of treats available for your little fury friend; that’s right, Shake Shack offers food for dogs.

A well-known In-N-Out competitor, Shake Shack will have to win customers over as an In-N-Out will be located only a small walk away.

“I think it’s going to be interesting to see how busy they get,” said Maria Alejandre, a Long Beach resident. “Ive always wanted to go but both Hollywood and Glendale can be an hour drive with all the traffic on the freeway.”

Nonetheless, the addition of a new fast food restaurant, especially that of a rare one, will be good to the Long Beach community
