Upgrades at El Dorado Park Celebrated
The City of Long Beach on Monday observed the official reopening of El Dorado Park West and El Dorado East Regional Park, which have been given a series of brand-new renovations. The renovations include major upgrades to the park’s ballfields, infrastructure, visitor amenities and accessibility.
“These major upgrades at El Dorado Park reflect our ongoing commitment to providing welcoming, accessible and community-centered recreational spaces,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Whether playing, cheering or simply enjoying the outdoors with family and friends, these improvements provide our community more opportunities to come together and stay active and engaged.”
According to an official press release from the city, the project renovations were made as part of the city’s Elevate ’28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, a long-running infrastructure initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach’s local parks, community facilities, mobility access and streets.
In the western area of El Dorado Park, renovations included extensive upgrades such as new infield fencing, netting, backboards, screening and dugout seating at Fields 1 through 4. The infields at Fields 3 through 6 received laser grading and the quad pavement between Fields 1 through 4 were also resurfaced. On top of all that, Fields 5 and 6 were given a fresh coat of paint, new fencing, updated dugouts and improved safety padding.
“El Dorado Park is home to Los Altos Youth Baseball & Softball, adult softball and baseball leagues as well as a popular route for competitive cyclists. The extensive renovations will improve the experience for these guests and all community members,” said Fourth District Councilman Daryl Supernaw. “This project highlights our commitment to investing in recreational facilities that are inclusive and built to meet the needs of our sports loving residents.”
Additionally, El Dorado East Regional Park received improvements of their own, including resurfacing to deteriorated roadways, providing safer and smoother driving conditions. New wayfinding signs are also being installed to provide drivers with clearer and easier navigation on the park’s roadways. Payment and parking systems are also being reworked to, according to Long Beach officials, streamline vehicle flow, minimize congestion and reduce car queues during peak visitation times.
This past Monday, Long Beach City Officials, including that of Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson, visited the park for the official ribbon cutting ceremony of El Dorado Park West and East’s reopening. And with its reopening, guests can once again use the park’s facilities to their fullest, as well as make more memories for themselves, friends and family.
The renovation projects for El Dorado Park West Sports Fields and El Dorado East Regional Park Paving, Wayfinding and Parking were funded by $10.2 million from California State Parks, advocated for by former 70th District California State Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell, $2.8 million in State funding, $1.2 million from Measure A, and $100,000 from the General Fund.
Construction for the El Dorado Park Sports Field Improvements began in July 2024 and was completed in June 2025. Construction for the completed El Dorado Park Paving, Wayfinding and Parking Improvements began in February 2025 and was completed in May 2025, with additional improvements still underway and expected to be completed by November 2025.
