Water Playgrounds Open

The City of Long Beach will open the popular inflatable “Wibit” aquatic playgrounds at Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue on Friday, June 14, offering residents and visitors of these Long Beach beaches free, family-friendly fun and active water play all summer long through Monday, Sept. 2.

“The Bay Shore Wibit draws residents and visitors to Alamitos Bay and offers families free summertime fun on these great floating playgrounds,” said Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan. “This is another enhancement to Alamitos Bay that residents can enjoy along with a new concession stand, swim ladders and swim distance buoy markings.”

The following rules apply to all Wibit participants during Long Beach Lifeguard supervised hours of operation, daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at both aquatic playground locations:

All participants (adults and children) are required to pass a swim test prior to accessing waterplay features.

Each child under 9 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Life jackets and personal floatation devices are not permitted while utilizing waterplay features.

Aquatic-based recreation is a naturally dangerous activity. The city encourages all users of the aquatic playground to exercise caution and abide by all posted rules. Using a waterplay structure is challenging and strenuous and the city assumes no liability or responsibility for injuries sustained while using the waterplay structures. Lifeguards are not guaranteed to be on duty if they are called to an emergency.
