Player of the Week: Cielo Meza, Softball – Sophomore Cielo Meza started the season 2-0, striking out 27 batters over three games, including a win over No. 21 James Madison. The Beach started the season 4-1 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

Men’s Basketball (13-14, 7-4 Big West)
Won 73-54 vs. Cal Poly
Gabe Levin and Temidayo Yussuf each had double-doubles in the win as the Beach held a conference opponent under 55 points for the first time this season.

Women’s Basketball (3-21, 1-9 Big West)
Won at CSUN, 59-51
Lost at Cal Poly, 70-61
Shanaijah Davison tied her career-high with a 29-point performance as she helped Long Beach State snap a 13-game losing streak with a victory over CSUN.

No. 1 Men’s Volleyball (12-0)
Won at Harvard, 3-0 [25-15, 25-15, 25-20]
Won at George Mason, 3-0 [26-24, 25-22, 25-19]
Long Beach State extended its winning streak to 12 after hitting .503 on the week and holding its opponents to a .155 attack percentage.

Won vs. Louisiana Tech, 2-1
Won vs. Nevada, 16-8
Won vs. No. 21 James Madison, 4-2 (8)
Won vs. Nevada, 7-6
Lost vs. No. 21 James Madison, 6-4 (10)
Freshman Naomi Hernandez hit .632 (12-for-19) in her first five collegiate games as the Beach started the season 4-1 while participating in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

Lost vs. No. 12 Indiana, 11-7
Senior Alexandra Massier led the way for the Beach scoring seven goals in four matches, including a hat trick during LBSU’s win against Santa Clara.

Women’s Tennis (2-2, 1-1 Big West)
Won vs. BYU, 4-3
Lost vs. Hawaii, 5-2
Natalia Munoz clinched the match against BYU as her 7-6 win in her third singles set was the deciding factor in the contest.

at Don Kirby Invitational
The Beach competed at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. in its final meet before the MPSF Championships. Sophomore Jason Smith had a solid meet for Long Beach State, registering a pair of PR’s in the jumps.
