Player of the Week: Tia Chavira, Women’s Volleyball – Tia Chavira moved from setter to outside hitter and made the most of her performance as she led the Beach in kills with a career-high 14 against UCSB, before besting that with a new career-high of 16 versus Cal Poly. She finished the week hitting .371 (30-7-62) with a total of 30 kills (4.29 per set) and 16 digs (2.29 per set).

Won vs. Cal Poly, 3-1 [25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19]
The Beach went 2-0 last week behind a pair of career-efforts by freshman Tia Chavira who tallied a double-double (14 kills, 10 digs) against UCSB, then followed that performance with 16 kills against Cal Poly. LBSU used an all-around team effort in both matches as Carly Aigner-Swesey paced the Beach offense to a .279 attack percentage on the week.

No. 8 Men’s Water Polo (16-12, 2-3 GCC)
Won at No. 13 Loyola Marymount, 21-20 (2OT)
Won at No. 14 UC Irvine, 11-8
Long Beach State won a thriller at LMU and then closed the regular season with a Black and Blue Rivalry win to secure the four seed at the upcoming Golden Coast Conference Tournament, where the Beach are the defending champs

Lost at No. 18 Saint Mary’s, 81-63
True freshman Joshua Morgan has impressed through four games, leading the team with nine blocks while averaging 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Women’s Basketball (1-2)
Lost at No. 11 UCLA, 86-51
Justina King turned in a solid performance last week at No. 11 UCLA as the sophomore led the Beach with 22 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. She connected on 8-of-14 field goals and was 4-for-7 from long distance.

Cross Country
at NCAA West Regional
Sophomore Raymon Ornelas was the top runner for the Beach and recorded a lifetime best, finishing in 76th place with a time of 31:20.9 in the 10K.
