Player of the Week: Cielo Meza, Softball – Sophomore Cielo Meza was dominant in the circle in two shutouts for Long Beach State. Meza broke the school record with 17 strikeouts in her first start, and then pitched her second no-hitter of the season in her second, striking out six as the Beach swept Hawai’i.

No. 1 Men’s Volleyball (21-0, 6-0 Big West)

Won vs. No. 4 UC Irvine, 3-2 [22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 21-25, 15-9]

Won at No. 4 UC Irvine, 3-1 [25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20]

--With a pair of wins over No. 4 UC Irvine, Long Beach State has recorded its third-straight 20-win season and has now extended its winning streak to 21 as the Beach remain the lone undefeated team in Division I-II.

Baseball (11-17)

Lost vs. No. 23 San Diego State, 5-2

Won at Fresno State, 24-10

Lost at Fresno State, 15-7

-- The Dirtbags had their best offensive performance in two decades, scoring 24 runs on 25 hits in the series opener with Fresno State. Unfortunately, that was the only win of the week. Big West play starts this weekend as LBSU got the bye in the first week of conference action.

No. 18 Softball (29-7)

Won vs. Hawai’i, 6-0

-- Long Beach State softball has now won 10 straight games, and is on pace to break multiple team offensive records in 2018. 

No. 14 Women's Water Polo (11-11)

Won vs. Brown, 10-4

Won vs. No. 19 Cal State Northridge, 10-8 (OT)

-- Playing in its last two home games of the season, Long Beach State went 2-0 defeating Brown and CSUN. Against Brown seven players scored, while senior Virginia Smith scored four goals as the Beach defeated the Matadors in overtime. 

Women’s Tennis (8-7, 3-2 Big West)

Won at Cal Poly, 6-1

Lost at UC Santa Barbara, 4-1

--The Beach split a pair of conference matches last week as they have now won five of their last seven contests.

-- Long Beach State picked up two more ranked wins against Stanford and Saint Mary’s this week, but lost 3-2 in a thriller to No. 6 Cal Poly at the Big west Challenge.

-- The women’s 4x100-meter relay squad broke the school record at the Mondo Team Challenge in Sacramento to headline a solid day of competition, particularly on the track.
