400 block of Golden Shore. Midnight approaching and a suspicious male was being checked out when he allegedly shot at a security guard with a BB gun. The suspect, 31-year-old Long Beach resident, Fidel Altamirano, was holding additional BBs on his person. Turned out his actions and his holdings made the suspicions warranted. He was arrested him on suspicion of discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and booked into jail on $20,000 bail.

Thursday, June 1

Wardlow Road and Claremore Avenue. A pickup truck carrying very hazardous pool-cleaning chemicals collided with at least one other vehicle, and possibly as many as four, at 8 a.m. Some drivers at the scene complained of shortness of breath from spilled chemicals; the other drivers, who knows? Residents as far away as near Carson St. and Bellflower Blvd. were notified by a reverse emergency call from the city to close windows and not breathe too hard, or something like that. Shortly after the event, cops set up a command post and apparently searched for the phantom possibly involved vehicles. After the emergency passed, neighbors who had gotten those calls started calling each other to find out if the calls were for real. They were. At 1 p.m., one lane of the affected part of Wardlow Road was open to traffic, while workers continued their cleaning while wearing breathing equipment. All very Star Trek.

Atlantic Avenue near Willow Street. At 5 p.m., police stopped a car hauling 17 pounds of meth, for an unsafe lane change. No ticket. Instead, narcs busted the driver, 22-year-old Ricardo Manjarrezvizcarra for the drugs and the transportation of them on $250,000 bail.

2300 block of Atlantic Avenue. Another traffic stop, more detecting. Said stopped car had evidence that suggested checking out the 1100 block of Salt Lake Street, where 35 pounds of meth and a large amount of currency awaited. A 30-year-old Long Beach man, Leonardo Soria-Garfia was booked into jail on $750,000 bail. Cellmates?

Wednesday, June 7

Broadway and Obispo Ave. A transformer exploded and a wire dropped from the power pole onto a metal Airstream trailer parked in a yard at 8:50 p.m. The trailer melted on one side, the tires also melted, emitting a stench. Blame a metal balloon for bring down the 60-plus foot live wire, which snapped, causing the transformer to blow. Reports of restaurant patrons skipping out on their checks as credit card machines were down began to trickle in. Power restored to the affected area and the machines at 3 a.m., too late for the machines.

Nieto Ave. and Division. Three young males were mooning the passing parade at 9:45 p.m. Possibly rehearsing for the annual, and apparently legal, train mooning at Mugs Away Saloon in Laguna Niguel one month hence.

3000 block of Studebaker Road. At 11:55 p.m., police got a call about a person with a gun call involved in a domestic dispute. When they arrived, they were confronted by a woman holding a gun. Reports were she had already fired several shots at her boyfriend. “They shouted multiple commands to drop the handgun, but the suspect refused to comply with their lawful orders, pointed a handgun at the officers, and the officer-involved shooting occurred,” police said in a news release. The deceased subject was identified as Michele Anne-Marie Rice, a 33-year-old Long Beach resident.

Saturday, June 10

5400 block of Spring St. At 5 p.m., an eastbound car hit a steel plate in the road, lost control, swerved over the center median, hit a tree and two parked cars. The driver was taken away in an ambulance.

Sunday, June 11

4100 block of Norse Way. At 11:25 p.m., a woman was attacked by a pit bull, her own pit bull. According to locals, the woman, this 51-year-old resident of Nevada arrived to get her fingernails done when she was attacked. When police arrived, she was lying in the street with multiple dog bites all over her arms and legs and clothing that had been partially ripped from her body. After several attempts to control the dangerous dog, first with a 40mm rubber bullet and a second time with a Taser, officers fired their guns two separate times, killing the dog. The woman, who was yelling about her dog being shot, was transported to a hospital by paramedics, her injuries deemed non-life threatening. No officers or any others were injured during the incident. Police determined the dog had a history of violent behavior toward people in Nevada, and now, California.

Monday, June 12

4400 block of Myrtle Avenue. Police answered an advertisement for fireworks and found $2,500 worth of high powered fireworks and arrested Marco Delgado, 18 and Sandro Perez, 33, both of Carson and Christian Chacon, 25, of Long Beach on possession of fireworks. The cops also took the fireworks. Happy fourth.
