Hof's Hut a Local Favorite
Hof’s Hut is a Long Beach landmark, so naturally, I felt it necessary to check it out. The restaurant was started in 1947 and has been a staple in the community for many generations.
Immediately when you walk in you are greeted by décor that reminds you of days passed with big band music playing in the background. Entering through the back entrance, you pass a very tantalizing bakery case filled with an abundance of delicious offerings.
I elected for an indoor booth near a window as I felt it was too warm to sit out on the patio, though it was offered as an option. Hof’s Hut has an extensive menu offering American favorites such as pot roast and chicken fried steak.
Right now, the restaurant is offering a seasonal summer menu, which is what I decided upon for my meal. I ordered the potato skins (a personal favorite of mine), from the regular menu as an appetizer and was pleased it was a large portion of crispy skins smothered in cheddar cheese, chives, and bacon.
For my meal, I chose the Summer Barbecue special with baby back ribs, tri-tip, baked beans, coleslaw, and cheese toast. The ribs fell right off the bone and the tri-tip was cooked just as I asked. I was pleasantly surprised that the baked beans appeared to be made in house with bacon and not the generic variety. The coleslaw wasn’t life changing but a nice addition none the less.
For dessert, I ordered the seasonal peach cheesecake which was delicious and not too sweet. The peaches were fresh and a great topping adding a balance to the rich cheesecake.
I received fast service with a smile which is all a hungry patron like myself could ask for. As for meal pricing, the meals are decently priced but don’t expect the same price equivalent of a fast-food restaurant.
Hof’s Hut is open Sunday and Monday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. The location I visited is located at 2147 Bellflower Blvd.

With all the exciting new restaurants opening in Long Beach, you devote time and space to a review of Hof's Hut?!?!?! And then that 'review' consists of the author telling us about a single lunch meal? This is staggeringly pointless.
