Market St. at Orange Ave. Multi-vehicle collision

5200 block E. PCH at Anaheim: At about 6:20 a.m., LBPD was summoned to an injury traffic collision between two vehicles, which resulted in the death of a 64-year-old male resident of Westminster. A LBPD news release states a preliminary investigation determined that a 38-year-old Long Beach resident driving a 2003 Nissan Altima was allegedly under the influence, was driving at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a right turn onto PCH, then collided with a Northbound 2009 Kia Spectra.

The driver and 28-year-old passenger in the Altima vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Due to injury, the driver was not arrested and charges are being filed against him.

PCH at Bellflower. At approximately 2:06 a.m., 24-year-old David Shelton Jr. of Long Beach lost control of his car when he hit a dip in the road while crossing E. 7th Street. while southbound on Bellflower. The preliminary investigation revealed that the 2010 Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed. His vehicle left over 225 feet of skid marks before running into a fire hydrant and a shopping center sign. Shelton was not wearing his seatbelt at the time and it is unknown if alcohol, drugs or distracted driving was a factor in this collision.
