Pucker Up
Same pig, new lipstick. Now that the old makeup has faded (anybody remember the green lasers downtown?) and with Olympics right around the corner, it’s time for a new hue on the ol’ snout.
Self-styled Superman, former Republican activist, ex-mayor and now Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia recently posted on Facebook that he is “proud to have helped secure half a million dollars in federal funding for the Downtown Long Beach Transit Mall,” this in order to pay for “upgraded LED real-time vehicle displays, shelter ID markers, and expanded digital experience screens.” Just what we all need.
How about, Mr. Garcia, securing some money for helping those who are forced to live in those transit shelters and in the transit mall? And what about those of us who are one bill away from joining them as food, gas prices and utility rates skyrocket around us? But hey, that’s nothing an “expanded digital experience screen” can’t fix!
Of course with a more than comfortable income as Long Beach mayor and now congressman, our pal Robert Garcia is immune to the problems of his constituents – the average citizens who voted him into office – and as usual is less interested in doing anything useful than in lookin’ good. The Robert Garcia legacy of governing via keeping up appearances continues; time to add more lipstick to the pig.
Pucker up, Vibe City!
Merry Colvin
